korean weekend!

I was craving korean food and decided to hop on down to the korean street downtown that we have heard of so often but havent been to. Along Shinokubo is a whole long street resembling a typical korean street, and has more than a hundred korean shops.

After some research online, we settled on this place called Hanyang...

and satisfied our craving for bibimbap (this photo was taken before we mixed everything in the heated stone pot)

and samgaetang (ginseng chicken soup).

I was wowed at the price. 780yen for this portion!!

Meanwhile, on sunday night, our oden party continued...

I made two huge pots of this and on sunday night, every single ingredient was so well simmered, we kept goin ooooooh and aaaaaaaaaaah as we had our second pot of treat.

J obento

Made fried chicken this morning for lunch and added his favourite egg from the oden.

Rice was simple fried rice with daikon (white radish) leaves chopped and sauteed in sesame oil, ketchup and soy sauce, topped with sesame seeds.

Dinner tonight was...
!

Seafood paella

with purple sauerkraut (i am so in love with caraway seeds now), and simmered japanese style vegetables
simmered daikon skin, carrots, shimeji in shoyu broth

So basically we finished the WHOLE daikon. the inner part was simmered in our oden, and the skin which is usually chucked into the bin, i kept and made this dish. Whiled the leaves, was used for obento fried rice. =)
