Saturday extravagant unagi lunch!
Unagi salad udon, with lots of vegetables, egg strips & sweet brown enoki
Ive never tried local ungai before. The ones ive had so far were mostly Taiwan produce even in Japanese restaurants in Singapore. Reason being, the price! Taiwan unagi is sold in supermarts here too. But Japanese ungai is usually 3 times more expensive.
Anyway, i dont fancy ungai because of the strong smell of the fish, and the gooey soft skin. Plus, the sauce is so thick, i reckon, the taste of the dish comes so much from the sauce (a bit like teriyaki sauce), i dont find any reason to eat it.
Well, we passed a very traditional ungai restaurant today and had it in a takeout pack, so we could have it for lunch.
hmm... i still really dont fancy even the local ones although it is supposed to be yummier. honestly, i dont find any difference, except for the super tender meat.
Dinner was...
Tofu salad
This first time i saw this, i thought it was mashed potatoes gone wrong.
But on first taste, it was creamily tofu!
Really simple to make. Just mashed tofu (drained of water), miso, ground sesame seeds, and some sugar. Then mixed with any kind of salad vegetable. Here i used, cucumber and sweet enoki. Refreshing salad for hot days.
I know it is still early to get excited over a public holiday two weeks away, but each time i look at the calendar, i cant help but smile at the 5 day lomg weekend! hoho
